Maritime Cracks Into ECAC Lambert Meadowlands Poll;Picks Up Four More Votes In National Coaches’ Poll
THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (Nov. 8, 2010) – With a perfect 10-0 record, the Maritime football team has finally earned a top-10 spot in the ECAC Lambert Meadowlands Division III Poll, released by the conference on Monday. The Privateers come in tied for ninth in the poll with Salisbury, earning 30 votes after being left just outside the top-10 receiving votes in the first four polls released this season.

Also released on Monday was the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Division III Coaches’ Top 25 Poll. Maritime continues to receive votes in the poll for the fourth straight week. This week, the Privateers picked up four more votes to bring the total to 11. They sit just eight spots out of the top 25 in the nation.

Maritime defeated ECFC-foe Gallaudet, 21-14, Saturday night on a late rushing touchdown by junior running back Jamie Spanopoulos (Franklin Square, N.Y./H. Frank Carey). The victory brought the Privateers’ regular season to a close with an undefeated 10-0 record. Maritime will now await the NCAA Selection Committee’s decision on the 32-team field for the 2010 NCAA Division III Football Championship. The brackets will be released this Sunday, Nov. 14, at 3 p.m. and the unveiling will be televised live on ESPNews.
