Kendrick-Holmes Hands Over Maritime Football Reins To Top Assistant Al Piascik

Maritime football sixth-year head coach Clayton Kendrick-Holmes announced on Monday that assistant head coach and defensive backs coach Al Piascik will take over the duties as acting head coach of the Privateer football team during Kendrick-Holmes’ mobilization to Afghanistan. The decision comes two days after the squad ended its championship 2010 season with a loss to Alfred in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Saturday.

“Coach Piascik has had an incredible impact on the success of our football program,” said Kendrick-Holmes. “He has run a huge portion of the administrative tasks this past season as assistant head coach and he is ready for the demands of this job. I know the rest of the staff and the players will support him in his leadership and he will continue to build upon the success of our program. I am extremely proud of Al and happy for him and his fiancée, Ms. Kevyn Hill.”

Piascik completed his third season with the Maritime football season in 2010 and saw two of his defensive backs earn spots on the All-ECFC Conference Teams: senior Steve Roman (Staten Island, N.Y.) was named to the All-ECFC first team, while junior Sean Wiggers (Norwood, N.J./Northern Valley Old Tappan) landed on the second team. Also, Piascik’s dedication in running the Privateers’ off season strength and conditioning program has been evident in the win-loss column for the team.

Recently, recruiting coordinator and offensive line coach Eric Ludwig completed his Strength and Conditioning certification and will take over supervising the teams off season program. Ludwig also took over the job of offensive coordinator during the 2010 season and will remain in that role.

“Eric did a tremendous job running the offense this season and he will do a great job in our off season program,” commented Kendrick-Holmes. “This will allow Coach Piascik the time he needs on the road with recruiting responsibilities.”

Sixth-year coach Vincent DiGaetano will add coach Piascik’s responsibilities as defensive backs coach to his defensive coordinator duties. “This will free up Al to keep an overall team focus required as a head coach,” said Kendrick-Holmes.

“The 2010 season has been a dream season for me as a coach,” commented Kendrick-Holmes, “and I know it was made possible by our team of 85 players and eight coaches who have been committed to excellence on and off the field. They have been loyal to me and Maritime College and I could not have asked for more from them. They have all worked tremendously hard to send me off with an incredible set of memories from this season. I will forever be grateful to the 2010 team for their dedication.”
