Kendrick-Holmes Named AFCA Regional Coach Of The Year
Maritime sixth-year head coach Clayton Kendrick-Holmes was named the NCAA Division III Region 1 Coach of the Year as announced by the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Monday morning. The honor comes after Kendrick-Holmes led the Privateer football team to its greatest season in program history.
This is the second Coach of the Year honor for Kendrick-Holmes this 2010 season, as he was also named the Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) Coach of the Year in November for leading Maritime to an undefeated 7-0 record through league play and the team's first ECFC Championship.
Maritime finished the 2010 regular season with a perfect 10-0 record, including the 7-0 mark in ECFC action. The Privateers earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament, another program first, before ending the remarkable campaign with a loss on the road at Alfred in the first round of the national playoffs.
The Privateers made their first splash on a national scene during the 2010 season, when the AFCA announced its Week Five D-III Top 25 National Coaches' Poll. Maritime was receiving two votes in that poll and sat 14 spots outside the Top 25. After five more appearances receiving votes, the squad finished the season with 14 votes, sitting six spots outside of the Top 25.
Maritime also appeared in the regional Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Lambert Meadowlands Division III Poll. After receiving votes for four straight weeks, Maritime entered the Top 10 at No. 9 after Week Nine and ended the season at No. 9.
