Privateers Earn Three D3football.com Regional Honors; Kendrick-Holmes Named East Region Coach of the Year

THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (Dec. 9, 2010) – The accolades keep pouring in for Maritime sixth-year head football coach Clayton Kendrick-Holmes, as Thursday he was announced as the D3Football.com East Region Coach Of the Year. This honor comes just days after he was named the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Region 1 Coach of the Year and weeks after he earned the distinction from the Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC).
Also announced by D3Football.com on Thursday were the all-region teams and senior right guard Frank Adamo (Somers, N.Y./Somers) was named to the All-East Third Team Offense, while sophomore linebacker Keith Barnes (Westbury, N.Y./Westbury) was named to the All-East Third Team Defense.
Kendrick-Holmes led the Privateers to a memorable undefeated regular season, including a 20-2 home victory over Norwich on Oct. 30 that clinched the 2010 ECFC Championship. Two weeks later, Maritime received its first ever bid to play in the NCAA Tournament. Throughout the season, Kendrick-Holmes’ last before his upcoming deployment to Afghanistan as a Naval Reservist, the Privateers ranked in the top 15 in the nation in three categories: sacks allowed (first, .27 per game) rushing offense (ninth, 292.36 yards per game) and punt returns (12th, 15.87 yards per return). Maritime’s total defense ranked 24th in the NCAA allowing only 266.09 yards per game.
Adamo earns a spot on the All-East Third Team Offense as a guard after leading the Privateers throughout the 2010 season. He was also named to the All-ECFC First Team Offense for his efforts this year. The 5-9, 252-pounder played an important role in Maritime’s rushing offense being ranked ninth in the country, as well as the team taking the crown as the statistical leader in sacks allowed for the second straight season.
Barnes was named the 2010 ECFC Defensive Player of the Year and earned a spot on the All-Conference First Team Defense after his sensational sophomore season. He led the Privateers in tackles with 116 total (75 solo and 41 assisted), for an average of 10.55 per game, which ranks 28th in the nation. His 1.55 tackles for loss is tied for 29th in the NCAA. The 6-0, 240-poudner recorded a team-high 17 tackles for combined losses of 66 yards, including three sacks. Barnes also registered four quarterback hurries, two fumble recoveries and one interceptions along with two passes defended and one break up.
