Mount Ida's Shaughnessy Invited to NFL Combine in Detroit

Mount Ida College football senior running back/wide receiver Paul Shaughnessy (Malden, MA/Northeast Metro Regional) has been invited to the National Football League (NFL) Combine on April 15th-16th in Detroit, Michigan. This is the first time any football player in the 11 year history of the football program has been selected to participate in any NFL sanctioned combine.

Shaughnessy had an open tryout in Baltimore, Maryland a month ago and received an email inviting him the combine to further show off his skills.

Last year at the event there were 23 teams that were in attendance who had two scouts per team. This year all 32 teams are expected in attendance. “This is the biggest moment in my football career.  To be able to have a chance to showcase my talents in front of NFL scouts is a dream come true,” said Shaughnessy.

Shaughnessy had a stellar career four year career at Mount Ida College he is the only player in Mount Ida History to have over 1,000 yards rushing (1,143) and 1,000 yards receiving (1,002). He is sixth all time in touchdowns scored (15) and sixth all time with 96 total point scored.  He was selected as a second team player this past year for Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) all-conference honors as a running back.

Shaughnessy was a key component to the Mustang offense his senior season as he played running back, full back and wide receiver helping to lead Mount Ida to their first ever Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (GNAC) North Atlantic Bowl appearance in the history of the program.

Congratulations again to Paul on this impressive accomplishment and good luck in Detroit.
