ECFC Weekly Honors for October 12, 2015
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
John Smith, Husson
(So, RB - Fayetteville, Ga.)
Smith tore through the defense Saturday, averaging just less than ten yeards per carry en route to a 258-yard, three-touchdown day in Husson's ninth-straight conference win. Smith took Husson's first play from scrimmage 64 yards to paydirt and never looked back, becoming the third player in Husson history to surpass 2,000 career rushing yards in just his second season.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Louie Akuffo, Gallaudet
(Fr, LB - Bowie, Md.)
In Akuffo's fourth start last Saturday the freshman linebacker had a career game as he made 14 tackles, 11 of which were solo, as the Bison lost 27-6 to Norwich University. Akuffo also recovered a key fumble that set-up Gallaudet's first quarter touchdown.
SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Bobby Lineberger, Castleton
(Jr., k - Warwick, R.I.)
Lineberger matched a career-high with ten points on Saturday while also forcing Mount Ida into poor field position with his strong punting. Lineberger made all four of his extra point attempts and connected on both of his field goal attempts, from 24 and 26 yards. The lefty also averaged 39.8 yards on his four punts, putting two inside the Mustang 15-yard line with the other two getting fair caught in Mount Ida territory.
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Moe Harris, Castleton
(Fr., rb - Pine Hill, N.J., 42)
Harris accounted for half of Castleton total yards of offense and a pair of touchdowns in Castleton's 34-14 win over Mount Ida. The freshman running back rushed for a career-high 161 yards with two touchdowns on 27 attempts, while also catching three passes for 44 yards. His first touchdown gave the Spartans a 7-0 lead five minutes into the game while his second made it 21-0 in the second quarter. He is just the second Spartan to post two 100-yard rushing games as a freshman.
