MARSHFIELD, Mass. – The Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) weekly awards were announced for games through Sunday, November 6th. Husson University’s John Smith earned Offensive Player of the Week while Maritime’s Brian Price and Norwich’s Austin Roberts earned Co-Defensive Player of the Week for their performances. Theodore Campbell (Boston, Mass.) of Mount Ida College and Connor Bourque (Goffstown, N.H.) of Norwich University were selected as the Rookie and Special Teams Players of the Week for their performances over the weekend.
Offensive Player of the Week
John Smith – Husson University
(Junior, RB – Fayetteville, Ga.)
Smith helped Husson capture their second ECFC title in the last three years, compiling 211 yards on 44 carries, an average of 4.8 yards per carry, and three touchdowns while single-handedly outrushing Norwich by 83 yards and outscoring them 18-13 in the Eagles 27-13 win over the Cadets on Saturday. Smith took his sixth hand-off of the day 2-yards outs giving Husson their 17th game in a row of scoring the first points of the game and then capped off the opening drive of the second half with his 47th career rushing touchdown, surpassing Julius Williams for the most in program history, with a 3-yard run giving Husson a 13-0 lead. After Norwich tied the game at 13, Smith scored his third and final touchdown of the day and his 50th of his career to give Husson the lead, which they would not surrender. Saturday marked Smith's 24th career 100-yard rushing game, 7th career 200-yard game and third 200-yard game of the season.
Co-Defensive Players of the Week
Brian Price - Maritime (N.Y.)
(Senior, DB - New York, N.Y.)
Price led Maritime with eight tackles this week in the team's 17-14 win over the Mount Ida Mustangs. Price also had a pair of interceptions, and now leads both the team and the Eastern Collegiate Football conference with five picks in 2016. Price's second interception of the game came with Mount Ida driving into Maritime territory as he picked off the pass in the end zone late in the fourth quarter with 2:48 to go in the game. The ensuing drive for the Privateers scored the go-ahead field goal to clinch the Privateer victory.
Austin Roberts – Norwich University
(Junior, DB - East Bridgewater, Mass.)
Roberts had an outstanding game on defense for Norwich, making 17 total tackles on the afternoon, the most by any Norwich player dating back to at least the 2011 season. He ranks fourth on the team with 52 tackles in 2016, setting a single-season career high with his 17 tackle performance on Saturday. In addition to his tackles, Roberts collected two pass breakups and forced a fumble.
Rookie of the Week
Theodore Campbell – Mount Ida College
(Freshman, DB – Boston, Mass.)
Stepping into his first starting role as a freshman, Campbell made an immediate impact on the defensive end, as he led the team with 17 tackles, eight of them solo stops and 3.5 of them for a loss of yardage. Campbell also broke up a pass and was all over the field in Mount Ida's 17-14 loss against SUNY Maritime.
Special Teams Player of the Week
Connor Bourque – Norwich University
(Freshman, RB – Goffstown, N.H.)
Bourque had a great day on special teams for Norwich, collecting almost 100 yards on special teams. He returned three kickoffs for 76 yards (including a 27-yard return) and two punts for 21 yards.
